Starry, starry night

When was the last time you wished something upon a star?

Seems like in this day and age the only lights in the dark are streetlamps or billboards. Although sometimes the billboards do the wishing part for us, I still look up longing to see more than a moon. You might feel like the night sky is changed, but there are still places where it can remind us of its beauty.

The stars remind me of my childhood. Lying in the grass. Wondering. Wishing.

The stars were my companions in summer nights by the sea, they lead our fishing trips in a small boat which grew smaller and smaller as we got out in the sea. As the sea reflected the stars, you couldn’t tell where the sky begins or ends. In moments like those you feel completely submersed in the universe.

If you can’t remember the last time you looked up maybe it is time to give the starry nights another try. They don’t change as fast as everything around us and they won’t leave you indifferent. There are many ways you can experience their beauty again and give your kids a chance to see them, maybe for the first time, in a new way.

You can use new mobile apps where you can learn about constellations, celestial objects and planets (more about the apps on https://www.astrotourism.com/news/10-apps-observe-starry-sky-smartphone/ ).

You can even go on a field trip to an observatory nearby (http://www.zvjezdano-selo.hr/  ), situated on the Mosor mountain . The visits are on Fridays and Saturdays, and the best time to visit is an hour or two before the sun sets.

The easiest ways for you to enjoy the starry nights above Dalmatia are simple. Go for a night swim, a walk or just relax outside with good company, good food and a glass of wine.

What more can you wish for?
